It was attended by MWAF Patrons Daw Ni Ni Win, Daw Khin Mi Mi and Daw Mya Theingi, President Dr Daw Thet Thet Zin, secretariat members, CEC members, and members, President of the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association Daw Nilar Thaw and CEC members, chairpersons of state and division Women's Affairs Organization, members of district and township WAOs, heads of department, wives of ambassadors and military attaches of foreign embassies in Yangon, representatives and officials of UN agencies, representatives from social organization, prize winners and guests.
In her address, the MWAF president said that With the aim of scaling up the abilities and improving the living conditions for women, the government set up the Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs on 3 July 1996, which was then designated the Myanmar Women's Day. So, the commemorative ceremony is held with all seriousness. In standing as a national mechanism, MNCWA established the Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation on 20 December 2003 with the objectives of forming a force and carrying out operation effectively under the leadership of women for life security and development of women; working hand in hand with congenial international NGOs; sharing nation-building tasks in harmony; and taking a broader part in movements of the Myanmar women sector. The formation of the federation was based on the seven lofty objectives designated for life security and development of women. In order to put the objectives into reality, women's affairs organizations were formed at state/division, district, township, ward and village levels. Due to its noble work programmes, the number of the membership has touched about 5.1 million in over six years. Regarding the tasks for prevention of women against violence, prevention of trafficking in persons, and rehabilitation and resettlement, the federation works in cooperation with the government and related ministries, covering the fields of holding educative talks, opening of educative centres, consolation, conducting courses for prevention of trafficking in persons in states and divisions, nurturing trafficking young women to get on well again with others in their societies, giving vocational education and seeking jobs for them. In the programmes for raising the education standard of women, the federation yearly provides cash assistance and pedagogical aids in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. In addition, it takes part in the arenas of non-formal education, literary campaign, and continuing education. With respect to health care, the federation works together with international organizations inclusive of local social organizations and UN agencies in birth-spacing and health educations, prevention and control of HIV/ AIDS, home care, and consolation. Income generation programme is ongoing apart from running vocational education course and seeking jobs to improve the socio-economic status of women. In particular, small loans and paid-up capitals are provided for needy women in states and divisions to help alleviate poverty. Under the directives of the federation, state/ division. district and township WAOs participate in the tasks of uplift of dynamism of patriotic spirit, national unity, preservation of cultural heritage, and environmental conservation. In conclusion, she recognized brilliant performances of women in the course of the nation's history in the tasks for flourishing of nationalistic spirit, patriotic fervour and Union Spirit, improving the




MWAF Patron Daw Ni Ni Win presented honorary gifts awarded by MWAF to writer Daw Kyu Kyu Thin (2008 national literary prize winner); Ma Myat Hsu San of No. (1) Basic Education High School in Dagon Township, Yangon Division, who won the highest marks the whole Myanmar in 2009 matriculation exam; sub-inspector Myint Myint Tin of Insein Criminal Investigation Department of the Myanmar Police Force who was named outstanding woman police member for 2009, and Daw Ni Ni Moe of Pyay, Bago Division (West) who was named outstanding Red Cross member for 2009.
MWAF Patron Daw Khin Mi Mi presented honorary gifts awarded by MWAF to Ma Kyu Kyu Thin of Thuwunna Gymnasium in Yangon Division who was named outstanding sports woman for 2009; Ma Aye Mu who was named outstanding disabled sports woman for 2009; Sergeant Maw Li Swe of Nay Pyi Taw Fire Station who was named for outstanding woman fire service member for 2009; and Senior Assistant Teacher Daw Yu Yu Wai of No (5) BEHS in Botataung Township of No (3) Basic Education Department under the Ministry of Education who donated blood more times than any other woman in 2009.
MWAF patrons Daw Mya Theingi presented gifts to A.K Moe (Zoology) who won first prize in photo contest to mark the Myanmar Women's Day, second prize winner U Ko Ko Khaing (IPRD) and third prize winner Hlaing Than Tin (Shwe Bachi Yamethin), and consolation prize winners Tun Tun Aye and Saw Aung Min (New Asia Photo Studio).
MWAF President Dr Daw Thet Thet Zin presented gifts to first prize winner Professor Dr Daw Su Su Khaing of the Myanmarsar Department, Myitkyina University, Kachin State, in the commemorative article contest, second prize winner U Tin Tun (Cherry Myay Maung Tin Tun), and third prize winner Daw Aye Myat Myat (Aye Myat MYat -University of Foreign Languages).
